Redfin Solutions Gives Back to the Community

Leslie

The team at Redfin Solutions has benefitted from Drupal since 2005. Every year, we give back to the Drupal community, and 2017 allowed us to contribute in a variety of ways.

Drupal Events

Local camps help strengthen the Drupal Community and give us an opportunity to network in person -- a welcomed change from our regular, virtual interactions.

  • NEDCamp is an annual Drupal camp held across the New England region. It’s a well-organized camp with engaging speakers on a wide range of topics. Redfin has been an event sponsor since its start and served on the organizing committee in 2017. This year’s camp was held at The College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts. Stay tuned for next year’s location...

  • Design 4 Drupal is a 3-day, design-focused Drupal conference “where drupal design, business and UX techniques intersect”. D4D is typically held over the summer at MIT in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Redfin Solutions has been an event sponsor for 7 years and help with project management and volunteer coordination. We are excited that 2018 marks the 10th anniversary of the Design 4 Drupal camp. We hope to see you there!

Code Commits

Contributing modules and patches and actively participating in the issue queues gives us an opportunity to give back to the Drupal community. Contributions made in 2017 include:

  • Drupal Core

  • Drupal Remote Dashboard

  • Display Suite

  • Drush

  • Paragraphs

  • CiviCRM

Sprint Participation and Mentoring

Organizing contribution sprints is a great way to help community members work as a group on Drupal issues. Our developers, designers, UX team, and project managers look forward to these events.

  • We helped to organize the Boston 2017 Global Sprint Weekend held at Genuine in Boston, MA. Several members of our team spent the weekend helping out as mentors and sprinting on a variety of issues in Drupal 8.

  • The sprint day at Design 4 Drupal was run by the Redfin Solutions team. More than a dozen participants worked with us on Drupal 8 core and contrib issues -- some as first-time contributors.

Presentations and Training

We shared our knowledge on the following topics in several sessions and trainings:

  • Drupal 8’s MIgrate API” session at NEDCamp

  • “Drupal Basics” training at NEDCamp

  • “Intro to SASS” training at Design 4 Drupal

  • “How to build a theme in Drupal 8” training at Design 4 Drupal

  • “Intro to Drupal” training at Design 4 Drupal

  • “Sketch Basics” training at  Design 4 Drupal

Blogs

Sharing what we have learned is also important to our team. Our blogs include helpful tips on topics that we spent time learning and want to share that expertise with others in the Drupal community. Some of our 2017 blogs include:

As this year closes we want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who gives back to the Drupal project and to the open source community. Redfin Solutions has been an organizational member of the Drupal Association since 2007 and appreciates all that the Drupal Association does for the community. If you aren’t already a member, consider joining the Drupal Association in 2018.

We look forward to expanding our knowledge of Drupal 8 in 2018 while helping companies increase their digital presence on the web and sharing with the Drupal community.
